  • The Huntington Arts Council invites artists to participate in Field Notes: Experimental Practices in Nature, juried by Christine Donnelly. This exhibition seeks work inspired by the natural world, with an emphasis on experimentation, material exploration, and expressive approaches. We are looking to move beyond the traditional landscape. Artists are invited to submit pieces that reflect a deep personal engagement with nature and the creative process. This is an exploration of the organic as a medium and a muse for experimental inquiry.

     

    About the Juror: Christine Donnelly, 2025 and 2026 Artist Fellowship recipient, is a Long Island based mixed media artist and art educator. Trained as a graphic designer, she has always been drawn to abstract artwork. Christine craved the opportunity to break from the rigidity of design and have the freedom to use materials in an expressive and spontaneous way. She dedicates time to creating layered, ethereal artwork that resonates with her. Her process is experimental, and greatly inspired by the beauty of nature.

    • Show runs: July 28 - August 30, 2026
    • Entries due by: June 1, 2026
    • Email Acceptance: June 23, 2026
    • Deliver Artwork by: July 21, 2026
    • Claim work by: September 1, 2026 (10-4pm) 

    How to Enter

    Artist’s registration through an online form.

    Entry Requirements

    • Artists Bio: 2-3 sentence biography about themselves and what inspires them as an artist.
    • Artist Statement: Approximately 50-150 words about the message their art communicates or the inspiration for their piece.
    • Artwork: Please title the file as “Title of Work.filetype” DO NOT include your name in the title as this is a blind juried show.

    Rules

    • All Media Accepted
    • Entries must be original to the entrant
    • Framed entries require wire hanging
    • Entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE

    Size Limits

    • Wall hanging work cannot exceed 48” inches in any direction
    • Standing work cannot be higher than 72”
    • Videos should not exceed 50 MB in size.

    Liability and Insurance

    Works are insured while in the possession of the Huntington Arts Council.

    Sales

    • HAC retains a 25% commission on all artworks sold.
    • HAC collects and remits payment of applicable sale taxes.

    • HAC Artist Members: $30 for first three entries and $5 for each additional entry
    • Non-HAC Artist Members: $40 for first three entries and $5 for each additional entry

    Student Rates

    • Journey School Students: $15 for first three entries and $5 for each additional entry
    • Non-Journey School Students: $25 for first three entries and $5 for each additional entry
